Gimbals

Gimbals is a restaurant in Sowerby Bridge that I have been going to for nearly 15 years. I have to say in all of the places I have eaten in down the years, this has to be one of the best. The food is amazingly good and exceptional good value for money. I went last week with Ester Grouse and it made me realize how good food can really be when being cooked by someone who knows what they are doing.

Janet and Simon who own this place are a real credit to the food industry, making a lot of their own ingredients from scratch and have been using organic and locally sourced produce from day 1. I can’t recommend this place enough and its well worth the trip. Starter: Sautéed Scottish girolles in smoked garlic butter on sour bread toast with a fried duck egg and: Andalucía Spiced featherblade steak with chunky chick pea puree, salted almonds, pomegranate seeds and chorizo ketchup. Mains: Wild sea bass fillets, line caught from Weymouth on dauphinoise with a minted pea sabayon and apple crab salsa and: Poached free-range chicken with girolles, crispy pancetta, boudin noir and garden peas in a tarragon truffle broth with wilted radicchio. Desert: Blackberry mousse with pistachio shortbread, Stewed blackberries with apple granite, Blackberry pie with clotted cream (Sorry but I demolished this before I took the photo) All this food came in at around £30 per head which is truly amazing value.
